Biography of Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma – born on November 7, 1977, in Delhi, India, is a prominent Indian politician affiliated with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He is the son of the late Sahib Singh Verma, a former Chief Minister of Delhi, and Sahib Kaur. Parvesh hails from a Hindu Jat family and has one brother and three sisters.

Education and Early Life

Parvesh completed his schooling at Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, and pursued a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree from Kirori Mal College, Delhi University. He furthered his education by obtaining a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Fore School of Management.

Personal Life

Parvesh is married to Swati Singh, the daughter of former Union Minister and BJP leader from Madhya Pradesh, Vikram Verma. The couple has three children: two daughters, Sanidhi Singh and Prisha Singh, and a son, Shiven Singh. Beyond his political endeavors, Parvesh runs an NGO named Rashtriya Swabhiman.

Political Career

Parvesh’s political journey began in earnest in 2013 when he contested the Mehrauli constituency in the Delhi Legislative Assembly elections. He secured victory by defeating the incumbent MLA and Speaker of the Delhi Vidhan Sabha, Yoganand Shastri.

In the 2014 Indian general elections, Parvesh was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) representing the West Delhi Lok Sabha constituency. He won with a record margin of 268,586 votes. He was re-elected in 2019, this time with an even larger margin of 578,486 votes, marking the highest-ever victory margin in Delhi’s electoral history.

During his tenure in the Lok Sabha, Parvesh served on several key parliamentary committees, including the Finance Committee, the Estimates Committee, and the Standing Committee on Urban Development. He was also a member of the Joint Committee on Salaries and Allowances of Members of Parliament and served on the governing body of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.

In the 2025 Delhi Legislative Assembly elections, Parvesh contested from the New Delhi Assembly constituency and won, defeating the incumbent Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

During the 2020 Delhi Legislative Assembly election campaign, he made provocative statements regarding the Shaheen Bagh protests, suggesting that protesters could “enter Hindu houses, rape our sisters and daughters.” These remarks drew widespread criticism.

In 2022, ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections, Parvesh extended an offer of a post-poll alliance to Rashtriya Lok Dal’s Jayant Chaudhary, stating that Jayant had “chosen a wrong home” by allying with the Samajwadi Party.

Later that year, at a rally organized by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Parvesh called for the “total boycott” of Muslims, a statement that was widely condemned.

Recent Developments

In February 2025, during the campaign for the New Delhi Assembly seat, Parvesh faced police action for allegedly distributing shoes to voters at a Valmiki Temple, which was seen as a violation of the model code of conduct. He claimed that he was honoring sanitation workers by placing shoes on their feet and denied distributing footwear.

Parvesh Verma’s political journey reflects a blend of significant electoral successes and contentious episodes. His ascent in Indian politics underscores his influence within the BJP and his appeal among a segment of the electorate.
